Kai is a lesbian, and his parents are cool with that. Kai is also non-binary, and that’s harder for them to accept

Twenty-six-year-old Kai studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and he likes theatre, singing and playing the piano. In addition, he considers himself a non-binary lesbian and uses masculine pronouns. This means he had to come out on two levels. When Kai was thirteen, he fell in love with a girl for the first time.

Petr Kalla, 45, is a successful lawyer. He and his boyfriend are bringing up two children with a lesbian couple, he is a long-term member and colleague of Prague Pride and co-owner of Q Café. He came out at 25, after a seven-year relationship with a woman. He first learned he was HIV positive in 2005.

Maku knew from an early age that he wasn’t feeling good in a girl’s body

Fifteen-year-old Maku knew he wasn’t feeling good in a girl’s body from an early age. There’s one thing he can say for sure - he is not a girl and he doesn’t wish to be one. Nevertheless, everyone knows him as a girl and so they keep addressing him as such. However, Maku’s closest friends address him with masculine pronouns and some of them use neutral pronouns, with which he also sometimes identifies. Maku identifies as nonbinary and it was the theatre that made him first realize, that there is something different about him.

On her platforms, she creates a space for dialogue about social issues while encouraging young people to be themselves. For many, she is a virtual friend and perhaps that’s why she admires the work of the mentors at the online counselling service at Sbarvouven.cz. Anežka opened up about why she doesn’t like putting labels on people and why it is important to her to appear publicly as an LGBT+ ally.
